Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Possess CA Special Education Credential (Mild/Moderate – Moderate/Severe) or CA Multiple Subject Credential (highly desirable)
  • State of California residence
  • Able to be flexible and organized
  • Possess good communication skills
  • Possess excellent writing and grammar skills
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, MS Word and Outlook, including experience using them in a professional capacity
  • Valid California driver’s license
  • Current first aid, CPR and CPI certification
  • Pass criminal background check
  • Pass LIC 503 “Health Screening Report”

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Duties may include, but are not limited, to:

  • Case manager to Special Education students
  • Provide direct services as needed to special needs students (curriculum, instruction and academic advancement for all students)
  • Obtain present levels/baselines
  • Review and print monthly progress for each student and send to office for student file
  • Compose IEPs for all students on caseload
  • Attend all IEPs as scheduled
  • Compose weekly lesson plan and submit to Principal for approval
  • Develop behavior support plan to support the needs and behaviors of the students
  • Write or proofread the behavior emergency incident reports (BEIRs)
  • Maintain contact with social workers
  • Follow up with providers to confirm that IEP attendance, reports and services are being completed
  • Hold monthly scheduled phone conference with parents or guardians
  • Turn in notes from emails and calls to the office at the end of the month and email them to Special Education Master Teacher/Principal
  • Be available for Special Education families on an as-needed basis via phone and online
  • Mail Prior Notices to parents
  • Schedule IEPs, set up meetings and follow up on attendees
  • Ensure all documents are in prior to IEP meeting (psych report, DIS provider reports/goals, GE/Parent progress) and forward to Principal for approval
  • Mail all approved reports to parents one week before IEP
  • Complete academic testing for initials and tri-annuals and write reports and IEPs
  • Hold transition meetings
  • Monitor confidential tracking database for returned IEPs
  • Follow up with parental or teacher concerns
  • Work closely with Master Teacher and/or Principal to report any concerns
  • Keep files in office compliant
  • Test students as necessary during State testing
  • Attend all Special Education meetings
  • Attend SELPA training as needed
  • Update caseload spreadsheet and IEP Master Calendar once a month
  • Follow up on concerns with Master Teacher and/ or parent as noted
  • Complete IEP Progress Reports for each student, including DIS progress
  • At the end of the year, download all information to an individual CD for each Special Education student on caseload
  • Maintain office hours as indicated by contract (8AM – 3PM M-F)
  • Respond as soon as possible but no later than 24 hours to parent, student, teacher and administration inquiries via phone and/or email during regular work week
  • Attend all in-person meetings as scheduled
  • Supervision of assigned instructional aides
  • Administration, accountability and security of psychotropic medication and prescription medication
  • Ensure staff compliance with report writing and Hughes Bill implementation
  • Other duties as required by Special Education Master Teacher or Principal
